Frequently asked Questions

I don't have a partner to bring and though I'd love to come I'm not very good at dancing?

To come on your own is fine. U-Jive have a number of single members and whether single or not you will not be short of an opportunity to dance. As to not being any good, due to the style of dance taught you will be up and running in no time. The moves are taught step by step to allow time to absorb, learn and remember.

I have never been able to dance so why should this be any different?

This style of dance is easily learnt and great fun. Most of our members have come with limited or no dance experience and in no time have picked up the moves and become hooked on the Modern-Jive style of dance.

As I'm a Beginner, will I hold the others up?

Not at all. What you must remember is that we were all Beginners once. After the Beginner lesson is completed, we have a Freestyle period where you'll have the chance to dance with others and our Crew members who are there to help and dance with you. This will be followed by an Intermediate lesson where those more experienced will continue with this lesson. At this time, our experienced Crew members will run through the Beginner lesson with you on an individual basis in a separate room. This part of the evening is much more relaxed and on a personal level and irons out any moves you were unable to pick up or queries you have.

How much do the lessons cost?

U-Jive have a discounted rate for students and often run promotional events where discounts are in place for new members. Please see our prices page for more details.

What should I wear?

What we recommend is you come in clothes you feel comfortable in. Some dancers come in jeans and teashirts and others like to dress up for the night. As to footwear, we recommend that you wear comfortable shoes which have a smooth sole and don't grip the floor.

What time should I arrive?

We recommend you arrive at 19:45 on your first week to enable you time to enrol, meet the crew members and are ready for the start of the Beginners lesson. Lessons start promptly at 8pm so allow yourself enough time to be ready.

What if I can't make it every week?

Unlike many other styles of dance which are course based and each week relies on attending the week before, U-Jive weekly lessons are independent and missing the odd week will not affect your progress. So if you are unable to attend and miss the odd week that's fine.
